Starving Artistry
Des Artistes

We are a couple of artists. We make art. And we spend all our money on stuff that feeds our creative passions. The downside? Starvation. Not literal starvation (well yes, sometimes literal, but hey we've got priorities). Let's just say every paycheck is like a gift from the gods, arriving JUST in time so that we can continue living indoors. This page is dedicated to the struggles (and VICTORIES) of living the life of a Starving Artist.

You can contribute to our cause by clicking on any of the wondrous links on this page and buying stuff we like. We promise you'll like it too, and you can feel good about feeding some good-souled albeit sometimes misguided artistes.

Pollock: The Movie, The Artist

It's important to mention that we don't watch movies much.  Seriously, if it's been out of theaters for more than five years we might have it on our list of "must-sees."  So naturally, we just watched Pollock for the first time (it's only been out since 2000!).  Aside from Ed Harris delivering an incredible performance and impressive directorial debut, the film, based on the life of American Abstract Expressionist painter Jackson Pollock, gave me a whole new appreciation for Pollock's body of work that goes way beyond his more widely recognized "drip" style paintings.  I've seen the latter in galleries, and they've never really spoken to me.  But to watch him come alive on screen and to "witness" his all-too-familiar struggle really did it for me.  A true artist in a completely unique moment in time.  I highly recommend the film, and you can find it on Amazon or on Netflix.  Now all I need is a Peggy Guggenheim to stroll through our apartment and give us a show :)

Jackson Pollock [Hardcover] on Amazon ~ Really great photo/bio book featuring Pollock's legacy of work.

Pollock [DVD] on Amazon ~ Although the film is not out on Blu-Ray yet, the standard DVD will play on any player, and is a great addition to any collection.
